There is no guarantee that AVTouchBar will be compatible with upcoming macOS versions. This is because I do not know how the operating system will change and if it will still be possible to use the APIs AVTouchBar needs to work.
I will certainly give my best effort to get AVTouchBar working with new macOS versions for as long as possible.
At the moment (January 2021) AVTouchBar works on macOS 10.15.x and also the current macOS 11.x Big Sur.
AVTouchBar will not keep macOS compatibility with specific macOS versions forever. This has various reasons. For example, AVTouchBar is dependent on SwiftUI to reduce CPU load, which requires MacOS Catalina 10.15+, and therefore is not compatible with MacOS Mojave 10.14 or below. In general AVTouchBar will try to stay compatible with the last 2 major macOS versions. The old versions will however keep working on older macOS versions and are available for download in the downloads section.
Out of the box, AVTouchBar is able to create visuals using the internal microphone of your MacBook Pro.
If you would like to use the system audio (no microphone), you will have to download a third party audio driver. This is because Apple does not provide a method for developers to read the system audio natively. AVTouchBar is not owned or affiliated with these third party audio solutions and you should read the terms of service / license associated with the respective products you choose to download. AVTouchBar is not responsible for any issues regarding third party downloads.
Please check out How to use the System Audio page for more details.
AVTouchBar currently supports both intel and apple silicon m1 chips. While the third party audio drivers available for the two chips are different, both have options to use the system audio. Please see How to use the System Audio for more information.
